SYMCO is affiliated to the University of Pretoria's faculty of Veterinary Science at Onderstepoort. In 2017 and 2019 Rhino Connect hosted the practical field and darting experience for about 75 university students from all over the world - during which about 50 rhino's were de-horned and DNA samples were gathered.
Rhino Connect has successfully hosted a number of projects as well as #RhinoMoon weekends for almost 5 years. A Rhinomoon is held during the full moon period of the month - traditionally referred to as “poacher’s moon” . This entails working shoulder - to - shoulder with Anti - poaching Units. This boots - on - the - ground exercise allows individuals to become directly and proactively involved in fence patrols, rhino monitoring and a variety of other educational programs, while working side - by - side with wild rhino on private reserves. Security is of the highest priority and all participants must undergo a vetting process prior to participation.
